NEWS RELEASE
ATLANTA, GA (December 2, 2011) – This year’s Black Friday was one for the record books. iZigg Inc., a leader in providing mobile media through the most recognized short code, 90210, today announced a 554% increase in text message traffic over the same period in 2010.
The businesses and individuals utilizing mobile spanned across every industry from restaurants and retailers to entertainment venues and salons. Retailers and restaurants accounted for the largest percentage of the text message traffic on Black Friday but the 90210 Platform served over 20 different verticals. “Mobile marketing is the most effective way to reach someone. With customers carrying their mobile device within arm’s reach, there has never been a more effective way to reach an individual than with a text message they receive instantly and open 97% of the time, said iZigg Co-CEO, David Liniado.”
From coast to coast, bargain shoppers were texting into the iZigg 90210 Platform to receive exclusive deals on Black Friday. Papa Johns, Hooters, Cold Stone Creamery and Datavision are notable establishments that took advantage this Black Friday along with thousands of other local businesses throughout the country. A few examples of real-time promotions that drove sales with 160 character messages included:
“Papa John’s Pizza Special thru 11/27 for all Mobile VIPs! Order Online & get a LG/Unlimited Topping Pizza for Only $9.99!
“DataVision Black Friday Deals All Dyson Vacuums and Fans 20% off List Price Valid 11/25-28 Valid in-store www.dataVis.com Phone - 888-888-2087 ”
“Revive Body Spa Pkg incl 60 min massage, 60 min facial & spa mani/pedi, BLACK FRIDAY SPECIAL $99”
Local businesses were able to capitalize on the biggest shopping day of the year without the marketing budget of a major retailer like Target or Walmart. Using the right tools, like a text marketing campaign, local businesses are able to stay competitive. “For local businesses, Black Friday is a great opportunity to increase traffic and bring in new customers. Instead of allowing those customers to be one-timers, businesses can capture their information for future marketing efforts with a simple mobile campaign, allowing businesses to initiate Black Friday any day of the year. Door Busters draw customers in, in-store marketing builds the upsell, and mobile brings them back”, says Liniado.
iZigg wasn’t the only company that experienced heightened numbers during Black Friday this year. It was also reported that Paypal saw a six-fold (516%) increase in global media payment volume on Black Friday 2011 compared to Black Friday 2010. Also notable was the increase US online retailer’s experienced with an estimated increase of 160% over last year. “We had our biggest Black Friday ever and plan to continue to make mobile a larger part of our marketing plans,” said Seth Brown of Datavision.
With the numbers still rolling in, it is apparent that mobile marketing is here to stay and will continue to grow. “The enormous increase in messaging we’ve seen this year reinforces the fact that customers want mobile communication and the businesses that understand this are reaping the financial benefits,” states iZigg Co-CEO Brian Underwood.

Radio Personality, Delilah, Uses Mobile Marketing
If you thought radio was dead, think again. The funny thing about radio is that it continues to grow and surprise us with how it can adapt to the ever changing world that we live in. Radio always seems to find a way to stay in the game, and mobile marketing is no exception.

Delilah, the most-listened-to-woman on radio in the U.S., has proven that Radio can really benefit from mobile marketing. Delilah has created fresh new opportunities to engage with female listeners in a way that is relevant and meaningful. She has doubled her mobile VIP Listener club in the last year, and her following just keeps growing stronger and stronger. “For more than 25 years, female radio listeners have trusted Delilah to provide honest counsel and product recommendations, and this is reflected in the success of the mobile campaigns that are conducted on behalf of brands like Keri Lotion.”
The combination of mobile and radio is extremely powerful for interacting with targeted, loyal audiences. Women trust Delilah, and they want to know what she recommends. By using text message marketing, Delilah has extended her brand from just a Radio Personality to much more! She is now someone, women know and trust. She has built such a strong rapport with her audience, that she is able to extend herself into other areas, and that is all made possible though text message marketing!
Still not convinced your local radio station could benefit from mobile marketing? Here are a few examples:
Voting
Set up a vote where listeners can choose the next song.
Location Alerts
Listeners could be alerted via text message when a DJ is going to be at a special event near them or what is happening in their area. This could help them get more people at on-site events.
Coupons
A radio station sponsor could offer a text message coupon in their ad. Maybe something like the first 50 people to respond get a free dessert with their meal.
Donations
For a charity event you could arrange for people to be able to text in their donation.
Contests
10th person to text in wins a prize
Traffic Updates/ School Closings
Users could be updated via text on traffic updates or when there is a school closing in their area.
These are just a few ideas! Just like with anything else, the possibilites are endless.
The Rock and Worship Road Show is using 90210!
The Summer/Fall tour featuring bands MercyMe, Jars of Clay, Hawk Nelson, Group 1 Crew, Matt Maher, and Trip Lee are utilizing the iZigg Mobile Marketing platform. By texting in, fans are updated on show updates and entered into nightly contests.
